In a 2007 program on National Public Radio (NPR) Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. discussed how in the U.S., people know more about the "events" such as results of the "American Idol" show (in News 10 or 11 hours!) and celebrity gossip "(insert name of celebrity here) what do the public and social concerns, not only the U.S. but throughout the world.
In fact, the U.S. the main "news" outlets (eg CNN, MSNBC, Fox) spend more time in the air recycling and regurgitating the celebrity "news" as they do in any other story (eg the problems of Paris Hilton in jail in 2007). And more and more reality shows with little or no content come out every season …
Yes, it is the dumbing "down of the U.S. population.
This phenomenon is not limited to the United States. Studies in Australia have also shown that too much television causes marked memory loss. The Researchers believe that passive watching TV not intellectually stimulating the mind. In fact, most would not encourage critical thinking.
And today in day August 21, 2008, reported on a story by Christine Ollivier, Associated Press, France has banned French channels from airing TV focused on children under 3 years of age. For foreign programs offered on cable, a warning message will be broadcast at the beginning of each show! (Well, like a pack of cigarettes!) Health experts have stated that "Television viewing hurts the development of children under three years. Risks include slow language acquisition and development, over-excitedness, concentration problems and more. "
However, children continue spending on average up to four hours a day watching television by the American Academy of Pediatrics. In comparison, spending on average only 2 hours and 14 minutes week studying and doing school work (USA Today Weekend magazine.)
In addition, children who watch too much television are more likely to be overweight. And if your child watches 3-4 hours of TV per day have been 8,000 murders (!) On TV at the time you finish elementary school. In comparison, The average adult American watches nearly five hours of television per day (AC Nielsen).
And obesity is on the rise in adults as well. By CDC, only four states (Hawaii, Colorado, Connecticut and Vermont) had obesity prevalence rates less than 20 percent, while 17 states had prevalence rates equal or exceed 25 percent. In a recent BBC America program on health and wellness, obesity in the United Kingdom is close to 25% of the population.
Moreover, more television means less communication with others, both inside and outside the home. When the TV is on for hours each day, is much more difficult to have real conversations with the people in your life. Over time, less media relations weaker and less important things in your life.
So what can you do? Well … turn off the TV and begin using the tools that can develop a positive mind and productive! And, the good news is that there are many great improvements in systems that have the impression of how their content can develop your mental powers of concentration, thinking and more. In addition, there are many that give you strategies to improve their positive interpersonal quality (ie, face to face) communication with others, that can lead to wealth, prosperity and abundance in your life. In fact, if you look at many successful people today see that they are master communicators.
In addition, to find resources that will show you how to know how to use the tools of awareness and wisdom to find the spiritual strength within you. The objective of which is increasingly focused on "Being" and more focused on the truth that will lead to happiness. Communication with others will be better, and doors to a life of abundance will open for you.
MOTIVATE yourself and take time to develop your mind and spirit. Turn off the TV. And even take some time away from the iPod and Blackberry. Set aside. Do not worry, it will still be there waiting for you.
Every action you take defines your life. Awake, aware and take action today to make your mind "sharp as a tack."
