How many public elections are in the U.S. eash, from dogcatcher to president?

The information I am looking for is: How are out many elections in the U.S. every year? I'm talking about every election, from the president and Congress to state offices and the city as other charges elected as school boards, etc. Basically anyone who has run for any level of office. No doubt that changes every year. So I'm probably asking how many elections are held over a four year cycle. A related question is how much money is spent on elections and how many are broken, shipping office, personnel, public relations, advertising, etc? It would be particularly useful for finding numbers each ad that break down in direct mail, television, radio, Internet, outdoor, etc.
