Chrysler UAW needs to grant – Gettelfinger

UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said on June 18 that the union must find a way to deliver benefits Chrysler health care that are similar to those given to Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. in 2005.

In an interview on "The Paul W. Smith Show" of the World Jewish Relief-AM in Detroit, Gettelfinger said that they have been talking to Chrysler quite frequently and need to find a way to solve the problem on this matter in which Chrysler now, the manufacturer of quality href = "http://www.oxygensensorwholesale.com/chrysler.html"> Chrysler Oxygen Sensor is in a peculiar condition.

Two years ago, the UAW gave health benefits to Ford and GM will save billions of dollars companies. And because that Chrysler was in stronger financial condition at the time, the union refused to do the same for the group. The Chrysler Group, in 2005, earned $ 1.8 billion. Unfortunately, due to the continuous descent of gasoline prices, which rose to almost $ 3 per gallon, the buyer started avoiding their truck-based models. The company said that in 2006 lost 618 million U.S. dollars and 1.98 billion U.S. dollars before taxes and interest during the first three months of this year.

In March, Gettelfinger said the UAW had finished a review of Chrysler's finances to determine if the subsidies are warranted. On Monday, he acknowledged that the group has a problem to be solved.

Roger Kerson, UAW spokesman had no comment beyond Gettelfinger's comments. Chrysler spokeswoman Michele Tinson not commented.

Before national contract talks with the three of Detroit that are set to formally start in July, both sides have been negotiating on health allowances. But for now, there is still no health care agreement made.

Chrysler, Ford and GM have a total of more than $ 100 billion cost of long-term retiree health care, which analysts believe it should decrease.

Under the 2005 agreement with GM, the hourly workers would contribute $ 1 for every hour in future wage increases to a new fund to help pay for health coverage for retirees. The amount of $ 370 is the maximum amount that retirees only pay every year in deductibles and fees. Most retirees and active hourly workers would have a higher co-payments for prescription drugs.

Meanwhile, under the 2005 agreement with Ford, retired workers to pay monthly contributions, annual deductibles and co-payments for some medical services up to $ 370 per year for individuals and $ 752 for a family. No deductibles or monthly contributions were asked to hourly workers, but they must contribute a portion of future wage increases to a trust to care for future health expenses. Moreover, the agreement also raises the costs of prescription drugs to employees and retirees visiting the emergency room.

Forecasters believe that any subsidies of the UAW on health costs was unlikely to be granted to Chrysler when the group was becoming a profit. But the situation has now changed.

DaimlerChrysler AG in Germany, parent of Chrysler, made an announcement of 14 May 2007 regarding the sale of a controlling stake in its U.S. operations impediment to equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP private. And analysts have said Cerberus is likely that increased demand for allowances from the union of Daimler would have.

losses The company also pushed Chrysler to announce a restructuring plan that includes acquisitions and early retirement offers so you can accommodate 13,000 jobs per hour and employees in the U.S. and in Canada in 2009.

Although Cerberus already has executives in the headquarters of Chrysler is working with its leaders equity firm has said he will leave the negotiations for Chrysler, which is being led by Chrysler Group President Tom LaSorda.

In the radio program, Gettelfinger said he was pleased to say that the discussions he has had with Cerberus have been very professional. He added that the company has great confidence in the capabilities, Tom LaSorda, who have confidence in the process that has been founded.
